BUFFALO, N.Y. — University at Buffalo geologists will once again host their annual Groundhog Day Cookout on UB’s North Campus.
The tradition , when UB geology staffer Dave Borden brought his grill and a taxidermied groundhog to work to mark the special day. The celebration has been held almost every year since.
What: UB Department of Geology Groundhog Day cookout
When: 11:45 a.m. on Groundhog Day (Tuesday, Feb. 2).
Where: North entrance of the Natural Sciences Complex, facing the Computing Center, on UB North Campus. (The Natural Sciences Complex is Building No. 15 on this map: .)
Who: The event is heavily attended by students and faculty in the geology department, and is also open to other members of the UB community.
Borden and Ridge Lea Larry — the taxidermied groundhog who started it all — will be on hand for the occasion. At noon, Larry will be taken outside to look for his shadow.
What you will see: The grill will be fired up, with hot dogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers as the main dishes. Homemade groundhog-shaped sugar cookies will be another treat.
